How to Reset a Poly Headset
Most headset trouble clears with a reset you can run at your desk in a couple of minutes. Find the symptom that matches yours below and work down the list, stopping the moment it starts behaving.
The headset will not pair anymore
When a Bluetooth model refuses to connect, it is usually still clinging to an old device in its memory. Wiping that list gives it a clean slate. This applies to models like the Voyager 5200, Voyager Legend, and Voyager Focus 2.
- Power it off, count to ten, and power it back on. A plain restart clears a surprising share of one-off faults.
- Erase the saved-device memory. On most Voyager models, hold the call button and the volume-down key together for roughly five seconds until a voice confirms the stored devices are gone.
- On the phone or PC, open Bluetooth and delete the headset entry there too. Choose Forget or Remove, since a stale record on that side blocks a reconnection just as often.
- Put the headset back into discovery and connect from scratch. Need the full walkthrough? See our Poly headset pairing guide.
Tip: Still nothing after re-pairing? Open Poly Lens and install any waiting firmware. A refresh often mends connection faults that button resets cannot reach.
Audio cuts out or sounds distorted
Choppy, dropping, or muffled sound is nearly always interference, distance, or stale firmware rather than a broken headset. Work through these for both Bluetooth and DECT setups such as the Savi 8220 UC and CS540.
- Close the gap. For Bluetooth, step nearer the paired device and away from Wi-Fi routers, microwaves, and other radios. For DECT, shift the base off the monitor and clear of other electronics.
- Power-cycle a DECT base. Pull its power and USB, wait half a minute, plug them back in, and let the light settle. This alone restores the link behind most no-audio complaints on Savi and CS systems.
- Re-subscribe the DECT headset if sound never comes back. Hold the subscription button on the base until it flashes, then seat the headset in the cradle until the light goes solid again.
- Update firmware in Poly Lens. Outdated firmware is a common, invisible cause of dropouts and buzzing that no button press will settle.
The buttons stopped responding
If the call, mute, or volume keys have gone dead but the headset still powers up, a hard reset usually brings them back to life on Voyager Bluetooth models.
- Charge it for twenty minutes first. A nearly flat battery can freeze the controls and look exactly like a hardware failure.
- Force a hard reset with a button combo. On the Voyager 5200, hold call and volume-up together for about ten seconds. On the Voyager Focus 2, hold the power button for roughly ten seconds until it restarts.
- Let it reboot, then set it back on charge for a few minutes before you test the keys again.
- If one specific button still does nothing, check Poly Lens for a firmware update, which can restore the control behavior.
Teams or Zoom cannot find the headset
When the app cannot see a headset the computer clearly recognizes, the fix lives in software settings, not the hardware. This is the usual story with USB models like the Blackwire 5220 and Blackwire 3220, or the Voyager 4320 UC on its adapter.
- Unplug the headset or its BT700 adapter and move it to a different port straight on the computer, skipping hubs and monitor jacks. This forces the operating system to re-detect it.
- Fully quit any other app holding the microphone, like a browser dialer or a second meeting window, then reopen only the one you need. Two apps fighting over the headset is a classic cause of a dead mic.
- Choose the device by hand inside the app. Teams keeps it under Settings, Devices; Zoom under Settings, Audio. Set the Poly headset for both the speaker and the microphone.
- Still hidden? Reinstall or update Poly Lens on the desktop, once known as Plantronics Hub, and restart the machine. It reloads the drivers the app leans on.
Full factory reset through Poly Lens
When nothing else sticks, Poly Lens can roll a headset back to its shipping defaults, clearing every setting, saved link, and custom EQ in a single step.
- Download the free Poly Lens app for desktop or mobile and connect the headset over USB or its adapter.
- Open the device in the app, find its settings, and pick the option to restore or reset it to factory defaults.
- Confirm, and let the process finish without unplugging anything. The headset reboots with a blank configuration, exactly as it left the factory.
- Re-pair and set your preferences again from there. Our pairing guide covers every connection type.
Tip: A factory reset also wipes custom names and button assignments, so plan to set those up again once the headset is back online.
Still stuck after a reset?
If a reset did not do it, run through these last checks. Each one points at a different cause before you reach out for support.
Give firmware one more look in Poly Lens
Old firmware drives connection drops, distortion, and control faults that no reset can touch. Connect the headset in Poly Lens on desktop or mobile and apply whatever update is offered.
Test on another port or computer
Move the headset, its base, or its USB adapter to a different port, ideally on a second machine. If it behaves elsewhere, the trouble is that original port, hub, or PC setup, not the headset.
It will not power on at all
Charge it on a cable and adapter you know are good for at least an hour, then try the restart again. If there is still no light after charging, the battery or charging port may have failed and the unit likely needs service.
Reach out to HP (Poly) support
If none of the above helps, the headset may be defective or due for warranty service. Have your model number and proof of purchase handy and contact HP support, which now looks after Poly and Plantronics gear.
